Subak initiatives

Subak’s programmes drive systems change by increasing the capacity and capability of our community to achieve real impact across climate sectors.

The power of our community:

  • Guilds & Communities of Practice

By nurturing collaboration and knowledge sharing across business functions (e.g. operations, tech, marketing & communications), these activities bring together relevant stakeholders within member organisations and beyond to drive climate impact.

Case Study: Knowledge sharing is reciprocal. When Open Climate Fix launched their AI-powered forecasting product, Quartz Solar, they were able to get feedback live during our Technology Guild. When Climate Policy Radar needed help writing code, the connections they had formed through the Tech Guild enabled them to do so.

  • Community Events

We organise regular, ecosystem-wide happenings for climate not-for-profits. These in-person and virtual events allow our community to connect and unwind, harnessing the collective innovation of our members in a comfortable environment.

Case Study: We have convened over 150 members at our quarterly celebrations in the past year. These in-person events are the foundations on which members are able to connect with each other; all that come leave with a new climate connection and many continue their conversations in the following months.

  • Shared Resources & Knowledge

We curate a range of resources including discounted access to business services, best practice guides, a member directory and toolkits all available via a shared digital platform.

Case Study: The Operations Guild Toolkit on Notion presents a detailed picture of the policies and benefits across organisations, alongside a comprehensive view of the tech products and services used across teams and any discounts available. This promotes transparency  amongst members, saving time and effort for our community by signposting important information.

  • Coaches in Residence and Mentors

We enable members to have access to a pool of best-in-class coaches, mentors, advisors and consultants across a full range of subjects, everything from back office operations to front end development.

Case Study: Sehaam Cyrene, a leadership coach with 10 years of experience, was hired by Subak and served as mentor to leaders across our member organisations during her 10-week programme, giving invaluable support to and developing members’ ability to grow and build dynamic teams.

  • Shared Office Space

Access to a physical space in which Subak members can convene and connect on a human level, sharing not only a workspace, but their problems, challenges, and successes at the same time.

Case Study: The physical office space is a centrepoint for London-based members. Monthly community lunches mean the office is full across organisations and spontaneous connections and collaborations are a regular occurrence.

  • Funding

We allocate funding to impactful new initiatives and foster collaboration to generate vital projects across climate sectors.

Case Study: Subak has funded 26 organisations globally with 22 individual research fellows supporting our missions. All organisations combined have gone on to receive over £30,000,000 in follow-on funding after Subak’s initial grant.
